Karen Francesca

Public Art & Gardens

Artworks and environments that regenerate and transform public and private spaces.

For over two decades Karen’s socially engaged practice, has looked into environmental and social issues through working with communities to explore and contribute to the places we live.

Public Art

Using a range of materials Karen responds to the needs and wishes of a community to create spaces that are visually rich, creatively stimulating, educational and provide habitat for wildlife.

Gardens

Designed to be low maintenance, organic and mostly edible with much use of herbs.

Collaboration is at the heart of Karen's work; with fellow practitioners, students, clients and commissioners.

Inclusion and representation of communities is central to all her work, driving the content, and often making a valuable activation of the heritage and social/ environmental history of an area.

Private Commission

Karen takes private commissions and will tailor her designs to your specific requirements.

Street Art

Urban interventions in the form of micro mosaics and micro gardens

Community - Social & Therapeutic

Karen's experience as an Art Psychotherapist is crucial in her community and outreach work.

Education

Karen uses a wide range of resources for her educational programmes.

Working both indoors and outside, she facilitates a playful exploration of materials, ensuring that processes are enjoyable, whilst skills and interests are developed.

Karen has been an outdoor educator for over 20 years, teaching organic food growing and habitat creation through tree planting and native flowers, as well as sculptural features, bird boxes, insect and mammal houses.

Woodland Resource

The raw materials for much of Karen’s work come from the natural environment; timber, clay and greenwoods that are sourced from her woodland practice, which through dedicated management is sustainable and renewable.

She aims to use sustainable and reclaimed materials wherever possible.
